MMMMM... FINALLY, SHAMROCK GOODNESS
McDonald's Canada steps up and addresses the Shamrock Shake problem. A rep from the corporation called into the show to talk with JB about the drama and offer up some free shakes to Top of The Charts listeners.
Last time on Top of The Charts:
RESTAURANT COUNT: 3
It went away but it's back. (Read the press release.) Word got out and Jeremy Bradley excitedly awaited the return of the tasty McDonald's Shamrock Shake. This year, however, the arrival of the thick and creamy treat has been non-existent at several locations. After stopping at three Winnipeg McDonald's restaurants JB was discouraged after each of the eateries failed to have Shamrock Shakes available.
"It's a Shamrock sham. That's what I'm calling it," Bradley said. "The signs are up advertising it, the staff is wearing buttons but the three places we went to didn't have any."
What's the reason for the lack of Shamrock goodness? It's not these restaurants didn't carry them, but allegedly the milkshake machines were not working. Is it a coincidence? It's not uncommon to see the machines dripping ooze in the summer when people want a triple-thick treat, but now for this once-a-year promotion they're nowhere to be tasted.
JB has talked about the seasonal product several times on the air:
"I look like an idiot because I'm telling people all about these things that you can't get," Bradley said after a recent show. "It's strange that I'm the one feeling like a fool freely endorsing a product that three restaurants -- all chosen at random, I'll note -- didn't even have available."
What do other patrons think about this problem?
"Bonnie and I set up shop in McDonald's at a Wal-Mart store and noted how many people in a 30-minute span came in for some sort of milkshake product," Bradley said. "There were at least 20 people that left empty handed and several of them muttering disgust during their departure. This clearly shows that we are not the only ones upset about this."
