The good news about the circus of L.A. freaks was that the one hour flew by. Lots of time spent showcasing the oddities but is that what made the show fast? I'm not sure. The guest judges (Avril and Katy) were next to useless (despite how much I like them) and didn't offer up anything substantial. And we spent a lot of time learning about crazy freaks that didn't stand a chance taking a hop over to Hollywood. So, what did we learn tonight? Nothing really.
The bright spot was the Danny Gokey sound-alike whose parents were former gang members. Provided he's not caught on someone's "turf" before Hollywood week, he should do well in the competition.

I did pay attention to a few of the auditions and I made an observation: the people that don't have an interesting back story or some sort of cheesy entrance get very little screen time. Have you noticed a quick rip through of good singers? They literally get five seconds of airtime. Why? Because there's nothing to them except the good voice -- which is ironic to write since the show is allegedly trying to find the next best singer!
Capturing my attention tonight was Shelby, the final contestant on day 1. Also, the Beatles beatboxer was awesome. I'm not sure why the judges hesitated. The hair sisters were cute and charming and the bank robber was great.

A quick show tonight. Not too many memorable auditions. Seemed like the hour flew by. What's my highlight of the night? When Shania Twain loses it and gets flirty and giggly. She's such a Canadian!
As for the auditions, there's that, um, what's her name? Boobflex chick? She perhaps had a bubbly (and busty) personality but was somehow surprised she wasn't taken seriously by the judges. Imagine that: you go in there talking about doing a trick with your boobs and then are amazed you get laughed out of the room.
Charity, the daughter of the hairdressers, was great. Great voice. Seems like she could be a little shy but I really liked her.
Ms. Warrant and Family Tragedy is getting another shot and I'm going to check the Vegas odds to see what people are predicting will have her removed from the competition this year.
I also enjoyed Bryan Adams sound-alike Keith Semple, however, I think doing Adams songs and sounding like him will just get him the reputation of a celebrity impersonater.

My patience is wearing thin and it's only the second day of auditions. I have a theory that these first few shows are done more for entertainment value and the seriousness (if you can call it that) of the competition will begin during Hollywood Week. But regardless, here's my thoughts from tonight's show:
The beauty pageant loser didn't wow me. I thought she missed all the big notes during her Titanic song. She couldn't quite get past the hump with the power notes and it fell flat for much of the chorus. The judges loved her, so what do I know?!?!
Miriam Lemnouni should've been shown more. She was great. I don't recall what she sang, but that's the note I made about her.
The church singer/mom caretaker guy gave me goosebumps on the back of my neck. I don't recall in recent memory someone doing that on Idol. Is that a sign of things to come from him? We'll see. And coincidentally, he was wearing the Idol logo colours!
TV host Christy was too zippy and I figured she was on there as a sham. She was wanting to promote whatever the hell her show is. But if it's a morning show, my cripes, I'd wanna drown in my Froot Loops before listening to that.
Holly, the guitar girl/Kellie Pickler look/sound-alike, was adorable and a great singer. She's entertaining and I think has enough personality to charm her way through the competition. Will she get to the end? Probably not. But she'll get some kind of entertainment gig from this.
Mallorie from South Dakota who sang Piece of My Heart was awesome. I think she's got talent but maybe a little too wholesome for Hollywood. I wanna see those claws!

The emails start coming before the show is even over. I love it! Thanks to our dedicated audience for keeping me in the loop of your feelings. One person said we should hear from the people booted off the show. I name names on here, so if you see your name, feel free to give me a shout! Let's get to the first audition recap of the new season.
Maddy Curtis, the good 16-year-old sister, is great. She's got a great personality and is so caring. Wow, is Hollywood gonna eat her alive! But good luck!
Amadeo and his very close plastic-glass-wine-drinking family is adorable but I'm afraid for the judges' safety if he gets booted in the coming rounds. I'm just saying!
Mere Doyle, the Japanese cartoon lover -- who admittedly has 14 years of training and been to hundreds of auditions -- just answered her own questions about why she hasn't been discovered: "hundreds of auditions." People must be doing something right to keep this gem hidden!
Luke Shaffer, who kinda looks like David Beckham, has a great style and great look. I think it's that that'll get him through the competition more so than his sound. He's good, but I'm not sure if he's that good.
Ashley Rodriguez (who we previewed on the Wrap Up) did Alicia Keys perfectly. Let's watch her go far in the competition if her sweetness doesn't get in the way. Bring out the claws in Hollywood week!
Justin Guarini look-alike Tyler Grady (who broke his hands or arms or whatever) is good but might be a little too Sideshow Bob for the non-zany Idol audience. Again, he's good, but maybe too out there?
Mike Davis -- the boat guy -- reminded me of a non-nerdy Danny Gokey. He's charming and has a great personality and that'll probably win him a lot of votes.
Joshua Blaylock, the shy timid guy they wanted to tell Simon to shut up, is the boy next door type. He's got sex appeal for being a southern gentleman, but again, I think he's in for a rude awakening in Hollywood. And that sucks because I think if he comes out of his shell he'll be fine.
Finally, Justin Williams, who I believe Fox wants us to remember as "the cancer hottie" is amazing. He's my pick for the night. He's got a long time left in the competition.
